Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) compliance has always been challenging due to complex regulatory language and exposure to risk. However, institutions that do not comply are in jeopardy of losing federal funding. Accessible and user-friendly, FERPA Clear and Simple clarifies the regulations and provides a ready reference for compliance and problem solving. This need-to-have guide offers critical and relevant material (including the 2008 Amendments) from a new perspective to help staff in student affairs, academic departments, and administrative support positions understand and comply with FERPA guidelines.

Carolyn Allard

Carolyn Allard began her career in 1999 at Anker Publishing, a small company whose main focus was to provide professional development resources for academic administrators. Her role as managing editor of The Department Chair was enhanced by her work on Anker's series of books for department chairs, which complemented and often stemmed from the content provided in The Department Chair. Each initiative worked hand in hand and brought a range of expert leaders and administrators to collaborate on The Department Chair.

In 2007 Anker Publishing was acquired by Jossey-Bass and this larger arena has allowed Carolyn to continue growing The Department Chair by expanding its content base and contributing authors. She also uses her editorial skills and knowledge of academic leadership to develop copy for The Department Chair Insider, a semimonthly e-publication written especially for chairs.

She keeps her knowledge of academia up to date by working part-time in a small Catholic college, and she has been a volunteer at her local public library. She is a graduate of Worcester State College and Fitchburg State College.
